Explosion at French Nuclear plant
At 11.45 local time (09:45 GMT) an explosion took place at the French nuclear plant in Marcoule in the south of France.
One person has believed to have died and four others injured.
A security perimeter has been set up because of the risk of leakage but there were no radioactive leaks after the explosion, caused by a fire near a furnace in a radioactive waste storage site. The plant produces MOX (Mixed Oxide) fuel, which recycles plutonium from nuclear weapons, but does not include reactors.
Described as one of France’s oldest nuclear sites it is a major site involved with the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
